Ordinary Love

Ordinary Love, 7.4/10, depicts an emotional year as couple Tom and June deal with June’s breast cancer. I know, that line alone brings a tear to the eye and puts a lump in your throat. Watching the movie itself has similar results.

The relationship between Tom and June is in one way – as the title would imply – ordinary but in so many other ways extraordinary. The dynamic between the characters never failed to put a smile on my face which is weird given the theme, yet it’s their love that gives each other and the audience strength.

I myself cannot even believe to imagine what it would be like to go through such experiences yet Manville and Neeson have offered a performance that made me feel like I was with them through every hospital journey, chemotherapy session and late night squabble. So eloquently written, the creators have approached a subject that everyone has a connection to in some way or another but they never fluff up the romance or skim over the tough moments. Ordinary Love is a true depiction or resilience, compassion and partnerships, in sickness and in health. Because of the realism I would only say to go watch this if you feel you are in the right frame of mind.
