Marriage Story

Marriage Story, 9/10, is one of the most profoundly moving films of 2019 and maybe even of all time. Written and directed by Noah Baumbach, Marriage Story dissects the venomous battle of divorce.

Within the first five minutes you know the history of Nicole and Charlie’s marriage. Through having to capture the reasons they love/loved each other you are cleverly given the finer details just enough that you become fully invested in their relationship, begin to care for their young son Henry and ultimately sink into the story as it unfolds.

The most beautifully heart wrenching script and powerfully moving performance from the two leads captures the intricacies of love and relationships and the excruciating heartbreak that results from when that love doesn’t go as planned.

The melancholic tone may make a painstaking watch but every component of this film is executed with pure finesse. Normally I would recommend you see this in the cinema but as it is a Netflix film I would absolutely urge you to tune in and turn your phone off.
