Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil

Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil, 6.1/10, opens with a theatrical ‘Once Upon…’ narration like most fairytales do. However, this sequel establishes itself by asking the audience to ignore the events of the first which is easy enough as it’s been half a decade since the original. Get past a repetitive narrative, a whimsical performance from Fanning and a shoehorned happy-ever-after abrupt final act and then, you will enjoy this movie.

Aesthetically, this film looks spellbindingly fantastic. The dazzling visuals of the Moors and its mythical and magical creatures will have younger audiences mesmerised. Jolie’s performance edges on the dark and evil without being too horrifying. Overall, I would say this is by far one of the better live action Disney films despite some of its faults.
