Ready or Not, 6.8/10, is the comedy-horror that – like most of the killings in this film – accidentally stumbles into mediocrity.
Grace’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her wealthy new in-laws force her to take part in their horrifying family tradition.
Ready or Not opens fairly strong with an establishing flashback and a melancholy wedding day. However, everything then seems to run away from itself as they never developing the main characters enough to make the audience care about what actually happens to her. This is shocking seeing as she is being chased by a bunch of murderers. The concept is interesting on a surface level but it is executed with a lack of creativity or thrill with every set piece being as predictable as the last. Slowly you become tiresome of the cat and mouse when the mouse is outnumbered, weaponless and her success comes from pure luck.
Reaching the most anticlimactic ending, it truly reaffirmed itself as tacky B-Movie, leaving me scratching my head thinking, “Well, that was…um?”
