Avengers: Endgame

[No narrative spoilers, however there are things referenced to bring some context] Avengers: Endgame, 8.4/10, is probably my most anticipated film ever! Even to the point where I ventured to the midnight viewing, but was it worth the sleep deprivation? Read on to find out.

Avengers: Infinity War saw the demise of 50% of all living creatures in the universe – including many fan favourite characters – all at the finger snap of Infinity gauntlet wielding Thanos. This devastating event has left the remaining Avengers desperately searching for a way to rectify their failure to stop Thanos and in turn, live up to their name.

So if there wasn’t enough pressure on Endgame’s shoulders already then you also have an 11 year build up, 21 prior movie of backstory, oh and the final cameo of the late Stan Lee. Being fully honest with you all, I’m going though mixed emotions. I loved the film don’t get me wrong, however I feel the humour began to run stale by the end because of it’s frequent conflict with the overall tone of the story. The emotional state I was left in after Infinity War felt a little redundant when viewed against the direction taken here, especially with Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) and his new love of Fortnite. After all I was still in mourning for the fallen and seeking revenge. To which this was then rectified by fist pumping, heart wrenching, emotional rollercoaster of second and third act.

I personally see Infinity War as the superior movie out of the Avengers franchise and very much think that Endgame rides on the success of that previous installment. With that said I was still glued to my seat throughout and thoroughly entertained. There are definitely plenty of prominent moments and scenes that long-standing fans will roar for. It is only on reflection I felt let down a little, so make the most of the magic from the grand spectacle that is Avengers: Endgame. To reference something a good friend and super fan has said “this is a true love letter to it’s fans” and that statement has never felt more true. So with that in mind, if you are avid follower of the franchise then this is definitely the blockbuster for you.
