That’s all folks.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 8/10, opens by mirroring my preconceptions of the movie and asking the question, “Is there any need for another iteration of a cinematic Spider-Man?”. We have numerous comic books, three attempts at live action films, games, albums, and all kinds of merchandise. So was an animated version really what we needed? It most definitely was! This is easily a strong contender for the top animated movie of 2018. Which is surprising seeing as I nearly didn’t even give it the time of day. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a visual experience like no other. A mash-up of animation styles that has been perfectly blended into a celebration of comics, action-adventure and astonishing visual style.

Every artistic decision is executed with absolute finesse. From thought bubbles, to the soundtrack, Sony have pulled it out of the bag. I was in stitches of laughter during the entirety of this movie which I found refreshing for a superhero movie that isn’t explicit or reliant on profanity like Deadpool. It also has a huge amount of character development and depth while still being very welcoming to the younger demographic. These concepts paired with the energetic and colourful backdrop are the success of this movie. Take your kids, take your partner, take your nan as I am sure they will be entertained by the new direction in which Sony have taken the beloved character of Spider-Man.
